Current mood: bored

AnOTP: Melisande/Madame Tourvel
Melisande is gliding through the gardens outside, smiling almost genuinely, pausing now and then to sniff a flower delicately and smile at the sweet scent. However, under this pleasant picture Melisande's hands twist with impatient boredom. She longs for something new. Melisande is always looking for new prey.

*Madame de Tourvel, who loves gardens, happens to be there as well, pale hands nervously twining in the fabric of her skirt - she's eminently corruptible, at least according to Valmont, and why should Melisande think anythindg different?*

Melisande looks up and notes Madame de Tourvel. Her eyes glitter for just a moment and then she continues moving, altering her course so she passes by her and pausing to offer her a smile. "It is a lovely place, is it not?"

*Tourvel looks up and nods, smiling politely* It is. All the grounds here are beautiful, if not quite so carefully tended as those I'm used to.

Melisande smiles back, her delicate eyebrows arching curiously. "And where are you from, then?" She looks out. "In some ways, the wildness makes them beautiful."

France. *more specifically, the aristocratic microcoosm of France, but that's not exactly a description she would give. Thoughtfully,* Perhaps. The idea that this is what all the plants become naturally is rather lovely.

"I've always found it fascinating to see what happens to plants when they are allowed to go their own way instead of constantly being pruned and cut back," Melisande says, smiling, her eyes deceptively distant.

*cautious* I suppose so. But oftentimes, the plants kill one another in such situations, fighting for light and such.

Melisande gives Madame de Tourvel and thoughtful look. "But then, of course, only the strongest survive - and that is the way it should be, sometimes."

*little shudder* Oh, I don't see that all - that is such a cruel way to live. And think of all that the Bible tells us about mercy and compassion. A world of only the strongest and most ruthless would be a terrible place indeed.

Melisande watches the shudder, mouth curling into a slight smile. "Ah, but I think you are mistaken in mistaking strength for ruthlessness."

*eyes lowered* Too often, they are one and the same.

Melisande's eyes sharpen and she takes a few steps closer, her interest piqued. "Are you not a strong woman?" She asks, "And yet you would describe yourself as ruthless...?"

*only a hint of bitterness, quiet* Oh, I wouldn't say that I was so strong as all that.

Melisande raises her eyebrows, her voice suddenly curious, quietly questioning. "Truthfully? You seem a willful lady to me."

*a polite smile like a mask* Oh, I am sorry - what an improper conversation for those who have not even been introduced yet!

Melisande's smile back is clever and almost edged. "Improper? Ah, but propriety is so dull..."

*If Madame de Tourvel wasn't a lady, she might have flung profanity at Melisande for that badly chosen remark. As it is, though, she says, still smiling* But there are reasons for it, just as there are reasons for tending gardens.

"Very well," Melisande says, and offers the slightest of curtseys, noting the misstep though her expression doesn't change. "Then I am Melisande Shahrizai."

*Madame de Tourvel gives a curtsey in return, far deeper than Melisande's* And I am Madame de Tourvel. Pleased to make your acquantaince.

"And I yours, Madame." Melisande says with a slight smile. "Would you tell me more of this place - France - you hail from?"
